Why Heavy & Lite?

WELCOME TO MY NEW BLOG!!!

There are four facets to this blog, therefore there are four meanings to this blog. My goal is for each post to have something to do with living well spiritually, physically, emotionally, and mentally.

Live Well Spiritually:

First and foremost, the title of this blog derives from the scripture in Matthew when Jesus says, "Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” (Matthew 11:28-30)

These three verse represent what my walk with Christ has been like. From the time I came to Him as a 20-year-old college student, I have been throwing my burdens upon Him. He sought me out when I was weak and carrying a load of burdens that I could no longer hold up on my own. Quite literally I was tripping and falling over all of my sin and stumbling because I carried such a heavy load. Since becoming a follower of Christ, I no longer have to carry my burdens; I am no longer heavy. I must admit, that sometimes I try to take back the reigns. But each time I stumble, the Lord is faithful and reminds me to find rest in Him, to give my burdens to Him, for His yoke is easy.

Live Well Physically:

I have struggled with my weight, eating healthy, and having positive self-esteem since I was a tween. Finally, in my mid-20s, I'm beginning to realize that weight, eating healthy, and self-esteem are not mutually exclusive things. They're really all one in the same. Very few people live well by eating junk. Most people who eat junk, struggle with their weight at some point in their life. As we know, weight gain and healthy problems, many times lead to a negative self-esteem. Negative self-esteem causes us to feel sorry for ourselves, and eat junk, or worse, eat nothing at all. It's a vicious cycle, and each of these are connected.

I was tired of feeling heavy, so in June of this year (2013), I began a journey. My journey is to live well, eat well, exercise well, and feel well. The second meaning of this blog derives from this journey that I'm taking. As you'll probably notice, "LITE" is spelled differently than it is in the bible verse that I quoted. That's because "LITE" is referring to multiple types of "light". I wanted "LITE" to be a symbol of eating "LIGHTER" and feeling "LIGHTER", like a "LITE" food.

Live Well Emotionally:

I'm a newlywed. Jason and I got married in September of 2012. If you've ever been in a relationship of any kind, dating, engagement, or marriage, you know all too well how much of an emotional roller coaster it can be. I've learned that in any relationship, but especially in marriage, there is a constant stream of emotions. Together we are always walking through some kind of emotion. Whether happiness, sadness, or anything in between, we are all emotional beings.

The third meaning of this blog comes from our ever changing emotions that range from heavy, hard, tough conversations to light and fun laughter as we walk through life.

It's also important to mention that emotional eating has also been a part of my life for many many years. I know that sounds a little silly, but it's true. Eating in secret and eating out of frustration or even happiness over the course of 20 years can snowball into a huge mess of problems. I will definitely be blogging about the heaviness of emotional eating while I'm walking through this journey to live well. If you can identify with my struggle, even a little bit, my hope and prayer is that together, we can see run to The Light, rather than remain to the darkness of this battle.

Live Well Mentally:

The fourth and final facet of this blog is living well mentally. Heavy & Lite will occasionally address matters in culture, and specifically in media, that cause us to feel heavy. With the help of my media guru husband, I will have somewhat frequent guest posts that will be designed to encourage us to keep our mind guarded when it comes to the music, movies, TV shows, books, and other mediums that we take in each day. Just because we live in a consumer culture does not mean that we can't have control about what we see, read, and hear. Don't settle for living in darkness; step into the light.

I hope that you enjoy this blog. It's a little different from my old blog, {mrs}blogbacktome, but the goal is to focus on these four facets of living well. If you've following my blogging for any length of time, you know that sometimes I'll stray off topic, but my hope is to really share my heart with you.

There are conversations that need to be had, so let's have them, whether they are heavy or lite. photo jessicasgiffile_zpsed8f17dc.gif
